Hi, my name's Mary Afdan
I have lived in Amsterdam since 1995.

Music is my world and I would like to share it with you. I adapt my repertoire and clothing to suit all occasions - be it openings, presentations, parties, or in cafés, large halls or festivals. As well as well known songs in the English language I also sing Moluccan and Indonesian songs. Recently I even did a Madonna act complete with the blond wig! If it's fun then nothing is too crazy to try!

SINGING LIVE
I adore singing live. I enjoy the contact with the public and love it most when they dance and sing along. If it's in the Jaya Pub on Bali or the Martinihal in Groningen you will never see me standing still.
I sometimes perform with a band and sometimes solo. When I perform solo I play keyboard or guitar and use backing music on cd and cassette.
If needed I have a complete music installation.
I have a lot of volume in my lungs and my powerful voice has a great reach. Everything I sing I sing from the heart. I get just as much pleasure singing a beautiful ballad as I do a swinging disco hit. See video I also love singing Indonesian songs.

BIOGRAFY
As professional singer, Mary Afdan entertained an international audience for many years at the 'Jaya Pub' on Bali. She sings soul, pop, reggae, jazz and blues. With her powerful voice she can captivate her audience with a beautiful ballad such as Imagine and then sweep them off their feet with Respect from Aretha Franklin. And in between even sing a few songs in Japanese and Chinese.

Her musical life began at an early age when her father taught her to sing and play guitar. After performing in the church and school choirs and winning diverse singing competitions she became so fascinated with music that she gave up her job and decided to try her luck in Jakarta.

From 1989 Mary performed with the band The Crown in nigh tclubs in Jakarta and Bandung. This led to her first T.V. performance in a music programme for the National T.V. company TVRI. In 1992 she took part in a national T.V. singing competition of RCTV. She came second and got the chance to bring out a cassette with the other finalists.

She then started a solo city to city tour of Palembang, Semarang, Surabaya, Ambon, Sorong and Medan and sang for the first time on Bali. That same year the nationally known live-music club 'Jaya Pub' asked her to be the club singer in their club in Jakarta and then in their club on Bali. Her performances in the Jaya Pub led to offers coming in from all over Indonesia. At the end of 1995 she moved to Amsterdam, and started to make her own Indonesian and English songs.

In her performances as wel as her western music repertoire she also sings traditional Indonesian and Moluccan songs with a modern arrangement. In the Netherlands Mary performs in many different cities for many different occasions. But wherever she is, no matter what kind of event, she will give a devastating show. Be it with Indonesian pop songs in the Martinihal in Groningen in front of 2000 people, or opening the Anti Racist Festival in the Sonsbeekpark in Arnhem with Imagine, she will always leave her mark on the public.
